The Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation (MNF) was established under the Trustees Incorporation Act (CAP 375) on 14th June 1996 as a permanent tribute to Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere’s contribution to improving the quality of human relations and development of mankind. The Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation is an intellectually and politically independent body that is not affiliated to any political party or government. The Foundation works to promote Peace, Unity and People Centered Development in Africa and the world through justice for all. It also promotes Mwalimu Nyerere’s belief and philosophy in the fundamental principle that all human beings are equal regardless of their differences and that humanity is one. That the human being is the purpose and justification for the existence of society. MNF has its headquarters at the Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation Square, 7th Floor, MNF House, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Nurturing, mentoring, training, challenging, engaging, defining, and transforming the young generation of African leaders into responsible and dedicated true Pan-African leaders of the continent who will propagate Unity, Peace and People-Centered Development.
The program envisions creating a lasting leadership philosophy in Africa that interprets and realizes the dream of a united, peaceful, and developed continent.
The Mwalimu Nyerere Pan-African Young Leaders Fellowship program, founded in honor of the late Mwalimu Julius K. Nyerere, a notable African leader and the founding father of the United Republic of Tanzania, has a compelling vision. It is dedicated to nurturing, mentoring, and transforming the next generation of African leaders into true Pan-African visionaries. This fellowship assembles 60 promising leaders from across the African continent to collaboratively tackle the challenges facing their nations. Through this program, these young leaders gain essential skills, forge meaningful connections, and develop a deep commitment to unity, peace, and people-centered development. This initiative aligns with Agenda 2063 and underscores the pivotal role that Africa's youth play in shaping the continent's future.
This program is convened in Tanzania every November, in line with the African Youth Month. The program is organized by The Mwalimu Nyerere Foundation – MNF, in collaboration with like minded partners at National and International levels.
